Person in pain from a dental emergency

Emergency Dentist Auckland

OneHealth Dental can help you in a dental emergency. We are a registered provider for ACC.

A dental emergency is any issue that requires immediate attention to relieve pain, stop bleeding, treat an infection, or save a tooth. If you’re unsure whether your issue is urgent, call us and we’ll advise you on the best next step.

What types of dental emergencies do you treat?

We treat clients for all types of emergencies including:

  • Toothache

  • Sensitivity / pressure pains

  • Cracked teeth

  • Re-cementing crowns & bridges

  • Accidents

  • Wisdom teeth problems

  • Abscessed teeth & infections

What should I do if I knock out a tooth?

  • Handle the tooth by the crown (not the root)

  • Rinse it gently if dirty, don’t scrub or remove tissue

  • If possible, place it back in the socket

  • If not, store it in milk or saliva and get to the dentist within 30 minutes

  • Time is critical. Act fast and call us immediately.

What should I do for a severe toothache?

Tooth pain can be a sign of infection or decay. Contact us promptly to make an appointment - we’ll be able to find the cause and provide relief. In the meantime, rinse your mouth with warm water, gently floss to remove any debris, and take over-the-counter pain relief such as paracetamol and/or ibuprofen

Can you see me on the same day for an emergency?

Yes, we reserve appointments daily for urgent dental needs. Call us as early as possible, and we’ll do everything we can to see you the same day.

Emergency Dentistry - Frequently asked questions

  • As we don't provide after-hours care, you'll need to contact an emergency dental service for urgent issues that can't wait until we reopen. For severe pain, you can take over-the-counter pain relief following the package instructions until you can see a dentist.

  • Severe pain, significant swelling, bleeding that won't stop, or trauma to your face or teeth usually need immediate attention. Minor toothaches, small chips, or lost fillings without pain can typically wait until our next available appointment, though it's best to call us for advice.

  • Rinse your mouth with warm water, save any tooth pieces if possible, and avoid chewing on that side until you can see us. If there's pain, take over-the-counter pain relief and contact us as soon as possible to arrange an appointment.

  • Facial swelling or a dental abscess requires prompt attention as these can indicate serious infection that may spread. If a facial swelling occurs outside our hours, visit a local after hours emergency clinic immediately, as antibiotics or other urgent treatment may be needed.
